How To Make Kerala Prawn Curry

Ingredients

  • 500g prawns, cleaned
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 tomatoes, finely chopped
  • 3 green chilies, slit
  • 1 tbsp ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tbsp red chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • 1/2 tsp garam masala
  • Curry leaves, a handful
  • Coconut oil, as needed
  • Salt, to taste
  • Water, as needed

Instructions

  1. Heat coconut oil in a pan and add the chopped onions. Saute until golden brown.

  2. Add ginger-garlic paste and green chilies. Saute for a minute.

  3. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they turn mushy.

  4. Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, and salt. Mix well.

  5. Add the cleaned prawns and mix until they are coated with the masala.

  6. Pour enough water to cover the prawns and bring it to a boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 10-15 minutes.

  7. Sprinkle garam masala and curry leaves. Cook for another 2 minutes.

  8. Serve hot with steamed rice or appam.
