Ingredients

  • 1 lb pork shoulder, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fish sauce
  • 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
  • 1 cup carrot, julienned
  • 1 cup daikon radish, julienned
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 French baguette
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish
  • Fresh jalapeno, sliced, for garnish
  • Spicy mayo, for spreading

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).

  2. In a bowl, combine the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, minced garlic, fish sauce, and five-spice powder. Mix well.

  3. Add the thinly sliced pork shoulder to the marinade and toss until evenly coated. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight for more flavor.

  4. In another bowl, combine the julienned carrot, julienned daikon radish, rice vinegar, sugar, and salt. Mix well and let it sit for at least 20 minutes to pickle the vegetables.

  5. Heat a skillet over medium-high heat and add the marinated pork slices. Cook for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until cooked through and slightly caramelized.

  6. Transfer the cooked pork to a baking sheet and roast in the preheated oven for another 20 minutes, or until the pork is crispy on the edges.

  7. Slice the French baguette lengthwise, leaving one side attached.

  8. Spread spicy mayo on one side of the baguette and layer the pickled vegetables on top.

  9. Place the roasted pork on the other side of the baguette and garnish with fresh cilantro and sliced jalapeno.

  10. Cut the sandwich into desired portions and serve.
