Hot Dogs and Kraut Recipe

A terrific blend of bacon, sauerkraut and homemade Thousand Island dressing. You can substitute a favorite sauce variety if you prefer. Now, you don’t need to step-up and find the nearest hot dog cart. Try our simple hot dog recipe.

Thousand Island Dressing:

  • ½ cup mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp. chili sauce
  • 1 tbsp. onion minced
  • 1 tbsp. green bell pepper minced
  • 1 tbsp. dill pickle your preference, minced , or sweet pickle relish
  • 2 tsp. fresh parsley minced

For the Dogs:

  • ¾ cup sauerkraut
  • 8 hot dogs
  • 8 hot dog buns
  • 3 bacon slices chopped and fried crisp


  1. Prepare the dressing, combining the ingredients in a small bowl. Set aside.
  2. Heat the grill, bringing the temperature to high.
  3. While your grill is heating, in a medium bowl, mix together the sauerkraut with the dressing.
  4. Grill the hot dogs for about 3 to 5 minutes over high heat until deeply browned, rolling to crisp all surfaces.
  5. Toast the buns on the edge of the grill if you wish.
  6. Toss the bacon with the sauerkraut mixture.
  7. Place the dogs on the buns and serve with the sauerkraut.
