Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 lb lamb or chicken, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 4 pita breads
  • 1 cup sliced tomatoes
  • 1 cup sliced cucumbers
  • 1/2 cup sliced red onions
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  • Tzatziki sauce for serving

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the olive oil, garlic, oregano, thyme, cumin, salt, and black pepper. Add the sliced meat and marinate for at least 1 hour.

  2. Heat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Cook the marinated meat for 3-4 minutes per side or until cooked through.

  3. Remove the meat from the grill and let it rest for a few minutes. Slice it into thin strips.

  4. Warm the pita breads on the grill or in a pan.

  5. To assemble the gyros, spread a generous amount of tzatziki sauce on the pita breads. Top with the sliced meat, tomatoes, cucumbers, red onions, and parsley.

  6. Roll up the pita breads tightly and serve hot.
