Preparation: 30 minutes
Cooking: 15 minutes
Total: 45 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 lb of lamb or chicken, thinly sliced
  • 4 pita breads
  • 1 cup of Greek yogurt
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 cucumber, grated
  • 1 tbsp of lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp of olive oil
  • 1 tsp of dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Sliced tomatoes, onions, and lettuce for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine Greek yogurt, minced garlic, grated cucumber, lemon juice, olive oil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix well to make the tzatziki sauce. Refrigerate for at least 20 minutes.

  2. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Season the sliced lamb or chicken with salt, pepper, and oregano.

  3. Grill the meat for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until cooked through and slightly charred. Remove from heat and let it rest for a few minutes.

  4. Warm the pita breads on the grill or in the oven.

  5. To assemble the gyros, spread a spoonful of tzatziki sauce onto each pita bread. Top with grilled meat, sliced tomatoes, onions, and lettuce. Roll up tightly and secure with toothpicks if necessary.

  6. Serve the gyros warm, and enjoy!
