How To Make Taylor’s Piroshki Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup warm water
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 carrot, grated
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the flour and salt. Gradually add in the warm water and vegetable oil. Knead the dough until it becomes smooth and elastic. Cover and let it rest for 10 minutes.

  2. In a separate skillet, cook the ground beef until browned. Add in the diced onion, grated carrot, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper. Cook until the vegetables are tender. Remove from heat and let it cool.

  3. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  4. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface into a thin sheet. Cut out circles using a round cookie cutter or a glass.

  5. Spoon a generous amount of the meat and vegetable mixture onto each circle of dough. Fold the dough over to seal the filling, forming a half-moon shape. Press down the edges with a fork to secure.

  6. Place the piroshki onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with beaten egg for a golden finish.

  7. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20 minutes or until the piroshki are golden brown.

  8. Serve warm and enjoy!
