  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp ground mace
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup whole milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F. Grease a 9-inch cake pan with butter.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, mace, and nutmeg. Set aside.

  3. In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.

  4. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk. Mix until just combined.

  6. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  7. Let cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
