How To Make Mace and Apple Crumble

This dessert has a sweet and spiced apple filling topped with a crunchy mace-scented crumble.

Ingredients

  • 4 medium-sized apples, peeled and chopped
  • 1 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. ground mace
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. ground mace
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. In a bowl, combine the chopped apples, lemon juice, ground cinnamon, ground mace, and brown sugar. Mix well and pour into a baking dish.

  3. In another bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, rolled oats, granulated sugar, ground mace, and salt. Mix well. Add the cold butter and use your hands or a fork to mix until crumbly.

  4. Sprinkle the crumble mixture evenly over the apple mixture.

  5. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the apples are tender.

  6. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, if desired.
