Ingredients

  • 4 large russet potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 shallots, thinly sliced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated Gruyere cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with butter or cooking spray.

  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the shallots and garlic, and sauté until softened.

  3. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish, then sprinkle with salt, pepper, and half of the sautéed shallots and garlic.

  4. Repeat with another layer of the remaining potato slices, salt, pepper, and the remaining shallots and garlic.

  5. In a separate bowl, mix together the heavy cream, Gruyere cheese, and Parmesan cheese. Pour the mixture over the potatoes in the baking dish, making sure to evenly coat.

  6. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes. Then, remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are tender.

  7. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh parsley before serving.
