How To Make Raggmunk

Raggmunk is a traditional Swedish dish made with grated potatoes and flour, fried until crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.

Preparation: 15 minutes
Cooking: 25 minutes
Total: 40 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and grated
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Place the grated potatoes in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze out any excess liquid.

  2. In a large bowl, combine the grated potatoes, chopped onion, flour, milk, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until the ingredients are evenly combined.

  3. Heat a generous amount of vegetable oil in a large frying pan over medium heat.

  4. Take a handful of the potato mixture and flatten it in your hand to form a pancake. Carefully place it in the hot oil, repeating with more of the mixture (you may need to fry in batches depending on the size of your pan).

  5. Fry each pancake for about 3-4 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the pan and drain on paper towels.

  6. Serve the Raggmunk pancakes hot, with lingonberry jam or sour cream on the side.
