Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  3. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  4. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.

  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula.

  6. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cakes comes out clean.

  7. Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes. Then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

  8. Once the cakes are cooled, you can frost and decorate them as desired.
