How To Make Ham Hock and Lentil Soup Recipe

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 ham hock
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 cup dried green lentils, rinsed and drained
  • 6 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, add ham hock, onion, celery, carrots, garlic, bay leaf, smoked paprika, dried thyme, lentils, and broth.

  2. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for 2 hours or until the ham is tender and the lentils are cooked through.

  3. Remove the ham hock from the soup and shred the meat. Return the meat to the soup and discard the bone and any excess fat.

  4. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot.
