Steamed Cranberry Roly-Poly Recipe

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cut into small cubes
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup orange juice

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  2. Add the cold butter to the flour mixture and using your fingers or a pastry cutter, cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.

  3. Gradually add the milk to the flour mixture, stirring until a soft dough forms.

  4. On a well-floured surface, roll out the dough into a rectangle shape that is about 1/4 inch thick.

  5. In a small bowl, mix together the cranberries, brown sugar, cinnamon, and orange juice.

  6. Spread the cranberry mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough.

  7. Starting from one of the long sides, carefully roll up the dough into a log.

  8. Place the rolled dough onto a piece of parchment paper and loosely wrap it, twisting the ends.

  9. Place the wrapped dough into a steamer basket and steam for 45 minutes.

  10. Remove the steamed roly-poly from the steamer basket and let it cool for a few minutes before unwrapping.

  11. Slice the roly-poly into thick rounds and serve warm.
