Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  2. In a separate bowl, mix together the milk, melted butter, vanilla extract, and egg.

  3. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, stirring until a soft dough forms.

  4. Heat vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).

  5. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to 1/2-inch thickness. Use a doughnut cutter to cut out doughnuts and holes.

  6. Carefully drop the doughnuts into the hot oil, frying for about 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.

  7. Remove from the oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

  8. Dust the warm doughnuts with powdered sugar to serve.
