Preparation: 15 minutes
Cooking: 20 minutes
Total: 35 minutes

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 4 tablespoons hot water

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.

  2. In a bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.

  3. In a separate bowl, mix melted butter, sugar, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with milk. Mix until just combined.

  5. Divide the batter evenly among the cupcake liners, filling them about 2/3 full.

  6. Make a small well in the center of each cupcake and place a teaspoon of chocolate chips in each well.

  7. Pour 1 tablespoon of hot water over each cupcake, which will create a puddle of chocolate in the center.

  8. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the cupcakes comes out clean.

  9. Allow cupcakes to cool completely before serving.
