Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan.

  2. In a medium mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

  3. In a separate large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

  4. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.

  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.

  6. Pour half of the batter into the prepared cake pan. Top with half of the sliced apples, sprinkling them with half of the brown sugar and cinnamon. Repeat with the remaining batter, apples, brown sugar, and cinnamon.

  7. Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

  8. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

  9. Dust the cooled cake with powdered sugar before serving.
