Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup hot water
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

  2. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. In a separate large bowl, mix together the granulated sugar, brown sugar, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract.

  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

  5. Stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth and well-mixed.

  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.

  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

  8. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

  9. In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.

  10. Remove from heat and add the chocolate chips. Let it sit for 1-2 minutes, then whisk until smooth and well combined.

  11. Pour the ganache over the cooled cake, allowing it to drip down the sides.

  12. Let the ganache set for at least 30 minutes before serving.
