Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs
  • 4 colored candles

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add the softened butter and mix until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, vanilla extract, and eggs. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.

  4. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top. Place the colored candles evenly around the center of the batter.

  5. Bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Remove from the oven and let cool for 10 minutes.

  6. Carefully remove the candles from the cake. Transfer the cake to a wire rack to cool completely.

  7. Once the cake is cooled, replace the candles in the center of the cake. Light the candles and serve.
