  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup boiling water
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch square baking pan.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.

  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the molasses, vegetable oil, milk, and boiling water.

  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.

  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

  6. Bake for 35-45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely before serving.
