Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 4 tbsp hot water
  • ½ cup chocolate chips
  • 4 scoops of ice cream (your choice of flavor)
  • Confectioners’ sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

  3. Add the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until well combined.

  4. Pour the hot water into the batter and mix again until smooth.

  5. Stir in the chocolate chips.

  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.

  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  8. Remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

  9. Once the cake is completely cooled, use a sharp knife to cut a small hole in the center, about 2 inches in diameter and 2 inches deep.

  10. Fill the hole with your choice of ice cream, creating a volcano shape.

  11. Dust the top of the cake with confectioners’ sugar to resemble ash.

  12. Serve immediately and enjoy the eruption of flavors!
