Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts (pecans or walnuts)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.

  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.

  5. In a small bowl, mix together the chopped nuts, brown sugar, and melted butter.

  6. Pour the cake batter into the prepared pan. Sprinkle the nut mixture evenly over the top of the batter.

  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  8. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then remove it from the pan and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

  9. Serve the cake as is or with a dollop of whipped cream or ice cream. Enjoy!
