How To Make Israeli Matzo Ball Soup
Comforting chicken soup with fluffy matzo balls, a classic Jewish dish.
Serves:
Ingredients
- 1 whole chicken, cut into pieces
- 10 cups of water
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 4 stalks of celery, chopped
- 4 carrots, peeled and chopped
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 tsp of salt
- 1/4 tsp of black pepper
- 1 cup of matzo meal
- 4 eggs
- 1/3 cup of vegetable oil
Instructions

In a large pot, add chicken, water, onion, celery, carrots, garlic, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and let simmer for 1 1/2 to 2 hours, until chicken is cooked and tender.

While soup is simmering, make the matzo balls. In a bowl, mix matzo meal, eggs, vegetable oil, and salt. Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.

With wet hands, form matzo mixture into 1-inch balls.

About 20 minutes before serving, add matzo balls to soup and let cook for 15-20 minutes until they are cooked through.
