Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger paste
  • 2 tsp garam masala
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 cup tomato puree
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, chopped for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large pan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until translucent.

  2. Add the minced garlic and ginger paste to the pan and cook for another minute.

  3. Add the garam masala, turmeric, and chili powder to the pan. Stir well to coat the onions, garlic, and ginger with the spices.

  4. Add the chicken pieces to the pan and cook until browned on all sides.

  5. Add the tomato puree to the pan and stir well to combine with the chicken and spices.

  6. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

  7. Stir in the heavy cream and yogurt until well combined. Season with salt to taste.

  8. Continue to simmer for another 10 minutes, until the sauce thickens slightly and the chicken is cooked through.

  9. Serve the butter chicken over steamed basmati rice or with naan bread. Garnish with fresh cilantro.
