How To Make Dutch Oliebollen Recipe

A traditional Dutch New Year’s treat, these delicious deep-fried dough balls are crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup chopped apple
  • Oil for frying
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt.

  2. In a separate bowl, beat the egg and milk together, then pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and whisk until smooth.

  3. Stir in the raisins and chopped apple.

  4. Heat oil in a deep fryer or pot to 375°F (190°C).

  5. Drop tablespoons of the dough mixture into the hot oil, frying until golden brown on all sides.

  6. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain.

  7. Dust with powdered sugar and serve warm.
