How To Make Richard Blais’s Onion Rings
Crispy and flavorful onion rings from Richard Blais, perfect as a snack or a side dish.

Ingredients
- 2 large onions, cut into 1/2 inch rings
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp garlic powder
- 1 tbsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 egg
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions

In a large bowl, mix together flour, garlic powder, smoked paprika, baking powder, and salt.

In another bowl, whisk together buttermilk and egg.

Dip each onion ring into the flour mixture, then into the buttermilk mixture, and back into the flour mixture. Shake off excess flour.

Heat oil in a large pot over medium-high heat. Fry the onion rings until golden brown and crisp, about 3-4 minutes per side.

Drain on a paper towel and sprinkle with salt before serving.
