Ingredients

  • 2 large eggplants, sliced into rounds
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 cup creamy béchamel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for cooking

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the ground beef, onion, and garlic. Cook until the beef is browned and the onions are soft and translucent.

  3. Stir in the dried oregano, ground cinnamon, tomato paste, and beef broth. Season with salt and pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes, until the sauce thickens.

  4. While the meat sauce is simmering, brush the eggplant slices with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Grill or bake the eggplant slices until they are tender and lightly browned.

  5. In a greased baking dish, layer the cooked eggplant slices, followed by the meat sauce. Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with a layer of meat sauce on top.

  6. Spread the béchamel sauce evenly over the top layer of meat sauce. Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese on top.

  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes, until the moussaka is golden and bubbling.

  8. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving. Serve hot and enjoy!
