This spicy and aromatic curry is made with tender venison and a blend of traditional Indian spices.

Cooking: 1 hour and 30 minutes
Total: 1 hour and 45 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 pound of venison, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 inch of ginger, grated
  • 2 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 tsp of cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp of coriander powder
  • 1 tsp of garam masala
  • 1 tsp of turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp of chili powder
  • 2 tbsp of vegetable oil
  • Salt, to taste
  • Water, as needed
  • Fresh cilantro leaves, chopped, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a large pot over medium-high heat.

  2. Add the cumin seeds and let them sizzle for a few seconds.

  3. Add the onions, garlic, and ginger and sauté until the onions are translucent, about 5 minutes.

  4. Add the tomatoes and stir well.

  5. Add all the spices and salt and cook for a couple of minutes.

  6. Add the venison and continue to cook for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.

  7. Add enough water to cover the meat, bring to a boil, and then reduce the heat to low.

  8. Cover the pot and cook for 1 hour or until the meat is tender.

  9. If the curry is too thin, simmer for a few more minutes to thicken it.

  10. Serve hot with rice or naan, garnished with cilantro leaves.
