Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup frozen peas and carrots
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 2 cups mashed potatoes
  • 1/4 cup grated cheddar cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. In a large skillet, brown the ground beef over medium heat. Drain any excess grease.

  3. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the skillet. Cook until onion is translucent.

  4. Stir in the ground cumin, paprika, cinnamon, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Cook for another 2 minutes.

  5. Add the frozen peas and carrots and beef broth to the skillet. Simmer for 5 minutes.

  6. Transfer the meat mixture to an oven-safe dish. Spread the mashed potatoes evenly on top.

  7. Optional: Sprinkle grated cheddar cheese on top of the mashed potatoes.

  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden and the filling is bubbly.

  9. Let the shepherd’s pie cool for a few minutes before serving.
