How To Make Star Anise and Soy Marinated Chicken

This dish is a flavorful and easy-to-make entree that is perfect for any weeknight meal or dinner party.

Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts
  • 4 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp grated fresh ginger
  • 1 tsp yellow mustard seeds
  • 1/2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 star anise pods
  • 1/4 cup chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Combine garlic, honey, ginger, mustard seeds, red pepper flakes, soy sauce, olive oil, and star anise in a large bowl. Whisk until well-combined.

  2. Add chicken breasts to the bowl and turn to coat them in the marinade. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 20 minutes (or up to 24 hours).

  3. Preheat grill or grill pan to medium-high heat.

  4. Remove chicken from marinade and discard remaining marinade.

  5. Grill chicken for about 7-8 minutes per side, or until fully cooked through (internal temperature should be 165°F).

  6. In a small saucepan, heat chicken broth over medium heat until simmering. Remove from heat.

  7. Once chicken is done, brush with the heated chicken broth. Serve hot.
