How To Make Spiced Basmati Rice

Ingredients
- 2 cups Basmati rice
- 4 cups water
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
- Salt to taste
- Fresh cilantro, for garnish
Instructions

Rinse the Basmati rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Drain well.

In a large pot, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic. Cook until the onion becomes translucent.

Add the cumin seeds, ground coriander, turmeric powder, and cayenne pepper (if using). Stir well to combine.

Add the rinsed Basmati rice to the pot and sauté for a minute, coating the rice with the spices.

Pour in the water and add salt to taste. Bring the mixture to a boil.

Once the water starts boiling, reduce the heat to low and cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid. Simmer for 20 minutes or until the rice is tender and fluffy.

Remove the pot from heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes. Fluff the rice with a fork before serving.

Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot.
