How To Make St Lucia Saffron Buns
A traditional Swedish saffron-infused bun, enriched with butter and topped with pearl sugar. Perfect for holiday celebrations.

Ingredients
- 1/2 tsp saffron threads
- 1/4 cup hot milk
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup golden raisins
- 1 egg, beaten
- Pearl sugar, for topping
Instructions

Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a small bowl, combine saffron threads and hot milk. Let steep for 10 minutes.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.

Add softened butter to the dry ingredients and mix until crumbly.

Stir in saffron-milk mixture and golden raisins. Knead until dough comes together.

Divide the dough into 8 equal portions and shape each portion into an “S” shape.

Place shaped buns on the prepared baking sheet. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with pearl sugar.

Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown.

Allow the buns to cool for a few minutes before serving.
