How To Make Olive oil bread

A delicious bread made with olive oil.

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1/4 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon dried herbs (optional, such as rosemary or thyme)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, salt, and sugar.

  2. In a separate small bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.

  3. Add the yeast mixture, olive oil, warm milk, and beaten egg to the dry ingredients. Stir until a dough forms.

  4. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.

  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until it doubles in size.

  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  7. Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it on a greased baking sheet.

  8. Brush the top of the loaf with olive oil and sprinkle with dried herbs, if desired.

  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

  10. Remove from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack before slicing.
