  • 2 cups elbow macaroni
  • 4 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 4 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Cook the macaroni according to the package directions, then drain and set aside.

  3. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.

  4. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.

  5. Gradually whisk in the milk until the mixture is smooth.

  6. Cook for 3-4 minutes, whisking constantly, until the mixture thickens.

  7. Remove from heat and stir in the shredded cheddar cheese, salt, and black pepper.

  8. Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce and stir to coat.

  9. Pour the mac and cheese into a baking dish and bake for 10-15 minutes, until the top is golden brown and bubbly.
