How To Make Gluhwein

A warm and spiced holiday drink that is perfect for cold winter nights.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle of red wine
  • 4 cups of apple cider
  • 1/4 cup of honey
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 10 whole cloves
  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 1 star anise

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, combine the red wine, apple cider, honey, orange slices, cloves, cinnamon sticks, and star anise.

  2. Heat the mixture over medium heat until it starts to simmer. Do not let it boil.

  3. Reduce the heat to low and let the gluhwein simmer for 30 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

  4. Remove from heat and strain out the orange slices and whole spices.

  5. Serve the gluhwein warm in mugs or glasses.
