How To Make Funnel Cakes

Always make sure to leave room for dessert. Whether you’re looking for some gooey chocolate goodness or some velvety cakes, our delightful dessert recipes will make you wish you spared some room for dessert right at the beginning.

Preparation: 10 minutes
Cooking: 20 minutes
Total: 30 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  2. In a separate bowl, mix the milk and eggs until well-combined.

  3. Gradually pour the milk and egg mixture into the dry ingredients, whisking until smooth and lump-free.

  4. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or deep fryer to about 375°F (190°C).

  5. Pour the batter into a funnel or squeeze bottle, using your finger to cover the tip.

  6. Holding the funnel/bottle close to the surface of the oil, squeeze the batter in a swirling motion to create the desired shape (spirals, lattice, etc.).

  7. Cook the funnel cake for about 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.

  8. Use tongs or a slotted spoon to carefully transfer the cooked funnel cake to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

  9. Repeat the process with the remaining batter.

  10. Dust the funnel cakes with powdered sugar before serving. Enjoy!
