Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • vegetable oil, for frying
  • powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together milk and egg.

  2. Mix in flour, baking powder, and salt until just combined.

  3. Heat about 2 inches of oil in a large, deep pot over medium-high heat.

  4. Once the oil is hot, pour batter into a funnel or squeeze bottle with a 1/2-inch opening.

  5. Hold the funnel or bottle a few inches above the hot oil and release the batter in a spiral pattern, overlapping as you go.

  6. Fry for about 2-3 minutes on each side or until golden brown.

  7. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.

  8. Dust with powdered sugar and serve hot.
