Ingredients

  • 100g dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • Juice of 1/2 orange

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 6-inch round cake pan.

  2. In a heatproof bowl, melt the dark chocolate and butter over a pan of simmering water. Stir until smooth and set aside to cool slightly.

  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until creamy.

  4. Gradually pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture, stirring constantly.

  5. In another bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder. Gradually add this dry mixture to the chocolate mixture, stirring until well combined.

  6. Stir in the orange zest and juice.

  7. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  9. Remove from the oven and let cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

  10. Serve the cake as is or with a dusting of powdered sugar and a side of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
