Soft and fluffy challah filled with sweet apples and honey, perfect for celebrating Rosh Hashanah!
Serves:
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup white sugar
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 tbsp active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 egg
- 2 medium-sized apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
- 1/4 cup honey, for filling
Instructions
-
In a large bowl, mix the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast until well combined.
-
In a separate bowl, whisk together the warm water, vegetable oil, honey, and egg until combined.
-
Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms. Knead the dough by hand for 10 minutes or in a stand mixer for 5 minutes.
-
Place the dough in a large oiled bowl and cover with a damp towel. Let rise for 1 hour.
-
Preheat the oven to 375°F.
-
On a floured surface, roll out the dough into a rectangular shape. Spread the chopped apples evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border. Drizzle the honey over the apples.
-
Starting at the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the seams to seal.
-
Place the dough log seam side down on a greased baking sheet.
-
Brush the top of the dough with egg wash and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
-
Bake for 35-40 minutes or until the challah is golden brown.
