How To Make Malaysian Beef Rendang
A rich and flavorful dish made with tender beef and aromatic spices, simmered in creamy coconut milk.

Ingredients
- 1 lb beef, cubed
- 3 tbsp oil
- 1 onion, diced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 2 lemongrass stalks, bruised
- 4 kaffir lime leaves
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 3 star anise
- 2 cardamom pods
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tbsp coriander powder
- 1 cup coconut milk
- 1 cup water
- 1 tbsp tamarind paste
- 1 tbsp palm sugar
- Salt, to taste
Instructions

In a pot, heat oil over medium-high heat and sauté onion and garlic until fragrant.

Add beef and cook until browned on all sides.

Add lemongrass, kaffir lime leaves, cinnamon stick, star anise, and cardamom pods, and stir to combine.

Add turmeric and coriander powder, and stir until fragrant.

Pour in coconut milk and water, and bring to a boil.

Reduce heat to low and simmer for 1.5-2 hours, or until beef is tender.

Stir in tamarind paste, palm sugar, and salt to taste.

Serve hot with rice or bread.
