Ingredients

  • 1 lb cod fillets
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup beer
  • 4 large potatoes, cut into chips
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 200°F and place a wire rack inside.

  2. In a large bowl, mix together flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.

  3. Gradually whisk in beer until a smooth batter forms.

  4. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat.

  5. Dip each piece of cod into the batter, letting any excess drip off, and place into hot oil.

  6. Fry for 4-5 minutes until golden-brown, then transfer onto a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

  7. In the same oil, fry the potato chips until golden-brown and crispy.

  8. Once done, transfer onto a wire rack and sprinkle with salt.

  9. Serve hot with the fish and tartar sauce or ketchup.
