Ingredients

  • 500g chicken, cut into pieces
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1-inch ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon saffron strands
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste
  • Fresh cilantro, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, marinate the chicken with yogurt, saffron strands, turmeric powder, garam masala, ground coriander, and ground cumin. Let it sit for 30 minutes.

  2. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and cook until golden brown.

  3. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the pan. Cook for another minute.

  4. Add the marinated chicken to the pan and cook until it is lightly browned on all sides.

  5. Pour in 1 cup of water, cover the pan, and let the chicken simmer for 30 minutes or until it is cooked through and tender.

  6. Season with salt to taste.

  7. Garnish with fresh cilantro and serve hot with steamed rice or naan bread.
