Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 ½ cups warm water

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, all-purpose flour, yeast, and salt.

  2. Dissolve the honey in warm water and pour it into the dry ingredients. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.

  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes, until it becomes smooth and elastic.

  4. Place the dough back into the mixing bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  5. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it on a greased baking sheet.

  6. Cover the dough with the kitchen towel again and let it rise for another 30 minutes.

  7. Bake the bread for 40 minutes, or until it sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom. Let it cool completely before slicing.
