Preparation: 15 minutes
Cooking: 1 hour 30 minutes
Total: 1 hour 45 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 3 cups bread flour
  • 2 tsp active dry yeast
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/4 cups warm water

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the bread flour, yeast, and salt.

  2. Slowly add in the warm water while stirring until a sticky dough forms.

  3. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise for 1 hour in a warm place.

  4. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C) and place an empty baking dish on the bottom rack.

  5. Punch down the risen dough and transfer it onto a floured surface.

  6. Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on a parchment-lined baking sheet.

  7. Score the top of the loaf with a sharp knife and dust lightly with flour.

  8. Transfer the baking sheet with the bread to the oven and carefully pour hot water into the empty baking dish on the bottom rack to create steam.

  9. Bake the bread for 30-35 minutes, or until it develops a golden brown crust.

  10. Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
