Ingredients

  • 2.5 dl milk
  • 25 g fresh yeast
  • 1 dl sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cardamom
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 1 egg
  • 75 g butter, softened
  • 7 dl all-purpose flour
  • 1 dl raisins

Instructions

  1. Heat the milk until lukewarm.

  2. Crumble the fresh yeast into a large mixing bowl. Add sugar, cardamom, and salt. Mix well.

  3. Add the lukewarm milk and mix until the yeast has dissolved.

  4. Stir in the egg and softened butter.

  5. Gradually add the flour, kneading the dough until smooth and elastic.

  6. Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes, or until doubled in size.

  7. Preheat the oven to 200°C.

  8. Punch down the dough and divide it into 4 equal parts.

  9. Roll each part into a long, thin strand and shape it into a knot or braid.

  10. Place the pulla on a lined baking sheet, cover with a kitchen towel, and let rise for another 15 minutes.

  11. Brush the pulla with beaten egg and sprinkle with raisins.

  12. Bake in the preheated oven for about 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

  13. Remove from the oven and let the pulla cool on a wire rack before serving.
