Serves:
Ingredients
- 1 pound boneless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 green onions, sliced
- Sesame seeds, for garnish
Instructions
-
In a shallow bowl, combine cornstarch, flour, and salt. Dip each chicken piece in beaten eggs, then coat with the cornstarch mixture.
-
Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C). Fry the coated chicken in batches until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels.
-
In a separate pan, heat a tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and grated ginger, and sauté for about a minute until fragrant.
-
Stir in soy sauce, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, honey, and red pepper flakes (if using). Bring the sauce to a simmer.
-
In a small bowl, whisk together water and 1 tablespoon of cornstarch. Add the cornstarch mixture to the sauce and cook until it thickens.
-
Add the fried chicken pieces to the sauce and toss until coated. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the chicken to absorb the flavors of the sauce.
-
Serve the General Tao chicken garnished with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Enjoy!
