How To Make General Tso’s Chicken

Ingredients

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ginger, grated
  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • Vegetable oil, for frying
  • Steamed rice, for serving
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, whisk together cornstarch and eggs until well combined. Dip chicken pieces into the mixture, ensuring they are coated evenly.

  2. Heat vegetable oil in a large frying pan or wok over medium-high heat. Fry the coated chicken pieces in batches until golden brown and crispy. Remove from oil and drain on paper towels.

  3. In a separate bowl, combine soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, ketchup, honey, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir well to combine.

  4. In a clean frying pan or wok, heat a little vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the sauce mixture and cook for 2-3 minutes until it thickens slightly.

  5. Add the fried chicken to the sauce and toss to coat. Continue cooking for another 2-3 minutes until the chicken is heated through and fully coated in the sauce.

  6. Serve the General Tso’s chicken over steamed rice and garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
