How To Make Canadian Butter Tarts
A classic Canadian dessert with a rich, gooey filling and flaky pastry crust.
Serves:
Ingredients
- 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- 1/4 cup of unsalted butter, chilled and cubed
- 1/4 cup of cold water
- 1/2 cup of brown sugar
- 1/4 cup of maple syrup
- 1/4 cup of melted butter
- 1 egg, beaten
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup of raisins or pecans (optional)
Instructions
-
In a bowl, combine flour and chilled butter. Use a pastry cutter or your hands to mix until it resembles coarse crumbs.
-
Slowly add cold water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until the dough comes together. Form into a ball and wrap in plastic. Chill for 30 minutes.
-
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll out the dough on a floured surface and cut out circles to fit a muffin tin.
-
In a separate bowl, mix brown sugar, maple syrup, melted butter, beaten egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
-
Place a spoonful of the filling into each pastry circle. Add raisins or pecans, if desired.
-
Bake for 15 minutes or until the filling is set and the pastry is golden brown.
-
Allow to cool before serving. Enjoy!
