How To Make Beignets
Beignets are delicious, deep-fried pastries that are soft, pillowy, and sprinkled with powdered sugar.
Serves:
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Vegetable oil, for frying
- Powdered sugar, for dusting
Instructions
-
In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg.
-
In a separate bowl, mix together milk, water, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
-
Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until just combined.
-
Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
-
Using a spoon or ice cream scoop, drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, frying in batches.
-
Cook for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and cooked through.
-
Remove beignets from the oil and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
-
Dust the warm beignets generously with powdered sugar before serving.
