Serves:
Ingredients
- 4 cups of milk
- 1/4 cup of plain yogurt (as a starter culture)
Instructions
-
Heat the milk in a saucepan over medium heat until it reaches a temperature of 180°F (82°C). Stir occasionally to prevent scorching.
-
Once the milk reaches the desired temperature, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool to 110°F (43°C).
-
In a small bowl, whisk together the plain yogurt and a small amount of the warm milk until well combined.
-
Pour the yogurt mixture into the saucepan with the remaining warm milk and stir until thoroughly mixed.
-
Transfer the milk and yogurt mixture to a clean glass container or individual serving jars.
-
Cover the container(s) with a clean cloth or plastic wrap and place in a warm location, such as an oven with the light turned on, for 6 to 8 hours or overnight. This allows the yogurt to ferment and thicken.
-
Once the yogurt has set, refrigerate it for at least 2 hours before serving. This will help to further thicken the yogurt and enhance the flavor.
-
Serve the homemade yogurt plain or with your favorite toppings, such as fresh fruit, honey, or granola.
