Serves:

Ingredients

  • 4 eggs
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • pinch of nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease four ramekins or custard cups.

  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and sugar until well combined.

  3. In a saucepan, heat the milk over low heat until it is hot but not boiling. Slowly pour the hot milk into the egg mixture, whisking constantly.

  4. Stir in the vanilla extract and nutmeg.

  5. Place the ramekins in a baking dish and pour the custard mixture evenly into each ramekin.

  6. Carefully pour hot water into the baking dish, filling it halfway up the sides of the ramekins.

  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the custard is set around the edges but still slightly jiggly in the center.

  8. Remove the ramekins from the baking dish and let the custards cool. Serve chilled or at room temperature.
